What does Arsenal need?
To be clear, I am a liverpool fan but I devote a lot of time watching Arsenal since they are my co-writers favorite team. I’ve been following Arsenal just as close as Liverpool. With that being said I will be going through the most crucial needs for them to challenge for the Premier League next season.
1: Stop being reactive
What do I mean by stop be reactive? Liverpool, Manchester city, and Chelsea are all making impact signings, especially if Liverpool gets Wirtz. Arsenal are the only team that would be apart of a title race that has done nothing. I’ve heard so many Arsenal supporters talk about how they need to react and start signing players. Why are Arsenal always on the back foot? You finished 2nd in back to back to back seasons, you needed to have a set plan and attack this window before the other challengers could, but it’s too late now. Arsenal needed players more than any other challenger and yet they didn't do anything.
2. Striker
This is the obvious need, Jesus is out until January and 1 thing Arsenal needed last season was an attacker. I am glad to see that Arsenal are linked to strikers, but being linked and buying a player is totally different. Gyokeres is a great option, but I think, even though I don’t see the value in this player, I would splash the cash for Isak. Yes it’s very expensive but with the deals that’s going on in the league, Arsenal needs to make a huge signing. I also like Sesko as an alternative to Isak because he’s young and a huge corner threat, which seems to be an Arsenal specialty.
3. Depth
Arsenal had the most injuries and long term injuries in the league last season and had no depth to keep up with the other teams. If Arsenal fell behind in a game, they had no one to come onto the pitch to help. No depth = more injuries, overworked players, and no rest. That’s a serious problem that needs to be addressed this summer. They need depth in every position to succeed this year.
4. Home advantage
6 of 14 draws were at home and 2 of 4 loses were at home in the league this season, which the West Ham lost at home being the most costly of the season. Compared to Liverpools 1 loss out of 4 at home and 4 of 9 draws at home. I think that’s a big reason why Arsenal struggled to really challenge Liverpool.
